I was a very lucky kid growing up in Seal Beach circa 1974. My dad was a firefighter, and some of my best memories are from the time we spent with other firefighter families—trips to Mammoth, weekends at the river, backyard barbecues. These were young firemen just starting families, and we did everything together. It was more than friendship—it was one big extended family.​

​As I got older, I began to understand and respect their sacrifice, their dedication, and the way they seemed born with a deep commitment to helping others. They never asked for recognition, never complained—they just helped people in need. Every single day.

Now that I have my own family, I appreciate that childhood even more. Back then, I thought everyone grew up that way. But I’ve come to realize that the bond between first responders is something rare and special. It’s a community built on trust, formed in the line of duty, strengthened by witnessing tragedy firsthand, and yet, even after the toughest days, they still choose to spend more time together away from work.

 

That’s what I want to help young firefighters, police officers, EMS, and military personnel build for their own families—stability, security, and a future they can be proud of. I like to think I play a small role in making that happen—helping them own their first home, build wealth, and create the same kind of memories I was lucky enough to have.

Well, I don’t remember many arrogant firefighters. They’re typically humble, confident in their training and experience, and grounded by the reality of how fragile life is.​​​

Humility and vigilance, on the other hand, open doors, build stronger connections, and lead to better outcomes for everyone.​​

First responders tend to have less traditional compensation plans.  Overtime, double time, inconsisent hours, and they often have multiple sources of income.  There is an art to digesting it all, and presenting it in a way that leaves nothing to doubt.  It can be a delicate process in making sure we don't understate, or overstate, your ability to repay the loan.  I lean on the conservative side when preparing a file.  If you qualify for a higher priced home, I will tell you. That said, it might be followed up with a conversation about whether a higher price is a smart move.
